Appreciating the Small Things

I've had a hard time trying to figure out what to write about recently. Things just aren't going the way I'd hoped they would, and it's been a little discouraging. In times like these, when everything seems to be going wrong, I'd usually fall apart and make things seem worse. I figured that in my adventure of bettering myself, I should change this habit, so I've decided to make a list of small things that make me happy.
- Cold Days -
Everything feels so much better when it's cold outside. My hair looks better, my skin feels better. Also, Christmas time! I just really love the cold weather.
- Chocolate Ice Cream -
Who doesn't love chocolate ice cream? It's comforting and makes me feel better when I'm sad, especially if there's brownies in there too.
- Folk Music -
Folk music makes me feel like my life is a movie. Very pretty on the ears. I'm actually listening to the "Fresh Folk" playlist on Spotify as I'm writing this.
- My Cat -
My cat's name is Charlie and he makes me very happy. Animals, in general, are a yes for me, but there's just a special bond between a girl and her cat. You can't beat it.
- When My Bed Feels Extra Soft -
After a long day, I lay down in my bed and it just hits different. I fall asleep instantly and have sweet dreams.
- Long Conversations -
When my best friend, Sarah, and I hang out, we usually just drive for hours and talk about everything. I think something about being in a car at night time makes it so much easier to talk, and I really appreciate the conversations we have.
- Bonding With My Family -
Family has always been very important to me, but now more than ever I feel like the moments I have with everyone are so precious. I don't take them for granted anymore.
- The Stars -
Looking at the stars reminds me of how small we all are and how temporary all of these problems are. One day, I want to go somewhere where all of the stars are visible.
- Painting -
I've never really been artistically gifted, but while I was away at college, I started painting. It felt really rewarding to see something come together after spending so much time working on it. I think it's important to find hobbies; it's like recreational therapy.
Of course, there are many more things that I could have added to this, but I don't think anyone would enjoy reading a book-length list. I'm hoping that focusing on the good now will help me become more positive about everything.
Thanks for reading. Xx
